For my final project for this class, I chose to examine the fashion used in the costumes for the musical Chicago. I thought the show's time setting of the 1920s tied in well with the readings we had done prior on flappers. I myself have limited experience with fashion, but I do know theatre, even having worked in the drama department costume shop my senior year of high school. We presented our findings alongside images on the final day of class. This presentation represented the cumulation of a difficult course for me in adapting to online learning, communicating with my professor, and working with subject matter that stretched my comfort zone. I was happy with my work in the end, but equally happy to be finished with the class.

This was one of two classes I took to replace the courses I would have taken on my study abroad in London. This particular professor had very high expectations for the class, but her communication style made it difficult for me to understand what those were. I had already had a couple of communication issues during our London orientations, and it turned out that these problems continued into this class. On our first Response Paper, my professor gave me a "check-minus" for the inclusion of a sentence fragment. I tend to pride myself on my command of grammar, and had checked my paper multiple times for sentence fragments, knowing that this was something my professor was particular about, so I was confused to see her comment and responded accordingly. It turned out that there was in fact no sentence fragment, as I had originally thought. She allowed me a chance to resubmit my paper for an improved score. But even after I did so, addressing all of her comments from the original version, I only saw a very slight improvement of my grade and still didn't exactly understand the reason for the low score. This experience frustrated me because I wanted to understand the expectations in order to improve, but still had trouble even after conversation. Communication is one of the major detriments of remote learning, and I resolved to try to continue to talk out confusion and issues throughout the quarter despite this experience.
